Digital UK said in its annual update report that FreeView Play will add new discovery features including a search function that works across all the catch-up services on the platform.
The firm, which also plans to add viewing recommendations, is working with a range of additional manufacturing partners for new TVs, digital recorders and set-top boxes.
Digital UK technology director, James Jackson said: “Features such as search and recommendations are likely to appear first on new devices,”
“Nevertheless, Digital UK is keen to encourage manufacturers to update existing Freeview Play products to add new functionality, where this is technically possible and cost-effective in enhancing consumer value and further retail sales.
The company is working with Channel 4, ITV, and manufacturers to introduce subtitling for on-demand services next year.
Digital UK is owned by BBC, ITV, and Channel 4. It provides operational support for the Freeview platform and leads on developing DTT strategy.
