Apple has quietly discontinued its 4-year-old 3rd generation Apple TV, one of the oldest streaming players seen as less expensive option for people who wanted access to their iTunes library on their TV.

Appleā€™s move was not surprising as older Apple TVs were not really popular. They lacked the Apple App Store and had just a fraction of the apps of even the fourth-gen Apple TV.

In recent months, there were rumours that Apple was just waiting for the existing stock of third-gen Apple TVs to sell. It seems that now, almost a year after the fourth-gen Apple TV hit the market, Apple has finally sold their stock of third-gen Apple TVs.
